In a desperate bid to outrun a violent pandemic, Andy and Kay have holed up on a houseboat with their infant daughter, Rosie. Their peaceful river existence is shattered by a violent attack, which sees Kay tragically die and Andy infected. Left with only 48 hours before he transforms into one of the creatures they have fought so long to evade, Andy sets out on the precarious journey to find a new guardian for his child. A flourishing Aboriginal tribe are Rosie’s best chance of survival – but with their merciless attitude toward the afflicted, they also pose a grave threat. As Andy's fate becomes intertwined with that of a young indigenous girl, he comes to view her as his safe passage into this sacred community. Unfortunately, the girl has no desire to return to her people – she is on a quest to cure her infected father by returning his stolen soul. In their own way, each of them is seeking salvation… but they will need to work together if they truly hope to achieve it.
ABOUT THE WRITER/CO-DIRECTOR
YOLANDA RAMKE has embarked upon a diverse career both behind and in front of the camera. She has worked across a variety of departments on productions such as Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, TV series Packed To The Rafters and Spirited and has been steadily developing her own material as a writer, director and actor. In 2012 her screenplay Shelter secured Metro Screen’s $15,000 Breakout Fund, and went on to screen at the Oscar accredited Flickerfest and St Kilda Film Festival. In 2013, she wrote, co-directed and acted in Cargo. The film became a viral sensation, amassing over 10 million views on YouTube and an international festival run including: Tropfest Australia, LA Shorts Fest, Heartland Film Festival, Cinequest Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Leeds International Film Festival, Sapporo Shortfest, Uppsala International Short Film Festival and St Kilda Film Festival.
ABOUT THE CO-DIRECTOR
BEN HOWLING graduated from the Southern Cross University with a Bachelor of Multimedia, went on to study Directing part-time at NIDA and has progressed rapidly through the ranks of television as a producer, shooter and editor on series such as Big Brother, Gladiators, Beauty & the Geek, So You Think You Can Dance, X-Factor and The Project. An avid music fan, he has also gone on to produce and direct video clips for artists such as Reece Mastin, YMS and Lazy J. His short film The Puppet was shortlisted for Tropfest 2012, whilst his sophomore effort co-directed with Yolanda Ramke, Cargo, garnered over 10 million views on YouTube and an impressive international festival run.
